Privacy Policy

Sprout helps you understand your money. It should never make you wonder what happens to your information.

Effective August 22, 2026

The short version What we collect How we use it When data is shared Retention Your choices Security Age requirement Changes Contact

The short version

We use your information to provide Sprout, connect the financial accounts you request, calculate your budget, support shared households, and maintain your subscription. We do not sell your personal information, serve targeted ads, or use third-party advertising trackers.

Your bank sign-in credentials are entered with Plaid and are not provided to Sprout. Detailed downloaded bank transactions are stored on your device. Sprout’s servers keep the account, connection, subscription, profile, and planning information needed to restore your setup and synchronize a shared household.

What we collect

Account information

When you use Sign in with Apple, we receive an Apple account identifier and, if you choose to provide them, your name and email address. We also create secure session records used to keep you signed in.

Financial connections and records

When you connect an institution, Plaid gives Sprout an encrypted access token plus information about the institution and connected accounts. We use that connection to retrieve balances and transactions. Sprout does not receive or store the username and password you enter with Plaid.

Detailed account and transaction records are stored by the app on your device. Plaid responses pass through Sprout’s servers when an account refresh is requested, but Sprout does not retain those detailed records. Sprout’s servers retain the encrypted Plaid token and limited institution references needed to perform later refreshes.

Your Sprout setup

Information you enter or create in Sprout, such as budgets, bills, categories, merchant rules, goals, preferences, and other planning settings, is cached on your device and stored by Sprout so it can be restored after sign-in. If you use a household, members use the same server-hosted planning workspace so household changes can synchronize consistently.

Households

If you create or join a household, its members can see the connected accounts and downloaded financial activity included in that household. Members may also see names, roles, account ownership, and profile icons or compressed profile images. Profile images are kept in private object storage and require authenticated household access. One member may have editing control while another has limited or read-only control. Only join a household with someone you trust.

Subscriptions

Apple handles billing. We receive and retain limited subscription and entitlement information, such as product, status, renewal or expiration timing, and App Store transaction identifiers, so we can provide paid features.

Optional support information

If you choose to create a support code, Sprout uploads a protected diagnostic snapshot based on the sharing choices shown to you in the app. It may include app state, settings, category and calculation details, and household or connection status. Support snapshots expire after 24 hours. Do not share a support code with anyone except Sprout Support.

How we use information

We use information only as reasonably needed to:

  • authenticate you and operate the app;
  • connect and refresh the institutions you choose;
  • calculate budgets, goals, safe-to-spend amounts, and insights;
  • restore planning information and synchronize shared household changes;
  • verify subscriptions and provide paid access;
  • answer support requests, prevent abuse, and protect the service; and
  • comply with law and enforce our terms.

When information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share limited information with service providers only when needed to operate features you request:

  • Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store distribution, and subscription billing;
  • Plaid to connect the financial institutions you select and retrieve account data;
  • AI service providers for limited categorization or insight features. Depending on the feature, this can include sanitized merchant or transaction descriptions, category hints, amounts, or budgeting context. We do not send bank credentials, account numbers, or Plaid access tokens for these features; and
  • Infrastructure providers that host or secure the service under contractual restrictions.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transaction where appropriate safeguards apply. Information you share with another household member is visible to that member as described above.

How long we keep information

We keep account, profile, planning, connection, household-membership, and entitlement records while your account is active and as reasonably needed to provide the service. Optional support snapshots expire after 24 hours. When a household is deleted, Sprout requests best-effort removal of its profile images from private object storage. Some limited records, objects awaiting cleanup, and provider backups may be kept longer where necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, accounting, legal obligations, or routine disaster recovery.

Deleting data from Sprout does not necessarily delete copies independently maintained by Apple, Plaid, another household member’s device, or your device backups. Their policies and controls apply to those copies.

Your choices and controls

You can disconnect institutions, leave or manage a household according to your role, and delete your Sprout account from the app’s settings. Account deletion removes your Sprout account and associated active server data after required financial connections are removed. Financial and planning data already stored on another household member’s device must be removed on that device.

Deleting your Sprout account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel the subscription through your Apple account first if you do not want it to renew.

You may contact us to ask about your personal information or request help exercising an available privacy right. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypted network connections, protected credentials and tokens, access controls, and encryption for sensitive server records. No system can guarantee absolute security, so please protect your device and Apple account as well.

Age requirement

Sprout is intended for adults age 18 or older and is not directed to children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Sprout, contact us so we can investigate and remove it where appropriate.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Sprout changes. We will post the revised policy here, update the effective date, and provide additional notice when required.
